JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman women's golf faces its second challenge in as many weeks, heading to the Palmetto State for the Oldfield Intercollegiate in Okatie, South Carolina.
The Eagles are coming off another solid team performance, finishing 5th at the Jerry Surratt Memorial. C-N was led by Ida Petersen, who secured her second top-ten finish of the spring season, placing 8th at 3-over. The solid finish comes a month after Petersen placed 7th at the Battle at Hilton Head, helping C-N finish 2nd as a team.
"It's been really nice," Petersen said. "My game is improving steadily… There are still a lot of things to improve out there, but as long as I'm doing well and continue the way I'm doing right now, it'll be good."
C-N had a handful of other solid finishes at the Jerry Surratt Memorial, with sophomore Emery Fisher placing 23rd, Madison Cline in 26th, Sydney Thomas in 27th, and Anaelle Picot in 59th.
After a month off between the Battle at Hilton Head and the Jerry Surratt Memorial, C-N will take the course for the second time in as many weeks, a stretch that Petersen believes the Eagles can handle with proper recovery.
"I think taking a little bit of rest is key," Petersen said. "Reflect on the things we can improve, there's really not much else. There are not many days between traveling, so I think taking the rest we need and things we can work on are key before we travel."
The Eagles prepare for a new challenge, heading to the Oldfield Intercollegiate for the first time. With a new course awaiting, Petersen believes the Sunday practice round is key for C-N to learn about the course and take that knowledge into the tournament rounds.
"The practice round is important," Petersen said. "None of us have played this course before. I know it's a nice area and I enjoy traveling… The practice round is important and we will have to pay attention to where we want to place the ball."
Petersen, Emery Fisher, Madison Cline, Sydney Thomas, and Anaelle Picot will be the five for the Eagles on Monday in Okatie, teeing off on the first round at 8 a.m.
