Eagles senior duo earns All-American honors

Lauren Wade Interview

Helen Seed Interview

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Carson-Newman has just two seniors on its 2017 roster, but their role in getting to the National Semifinal was recognized on Wednesday evening. Defender Helen Seed and forward Lauren Wade were selected as All-Americans by the United Soccer Coaches.

It's the first time in the history of the Eagles program that two players have been named to All-America teams in the same year.

Wade, who was second-team NSCAA All-American last year, made the jump to the first-team becoming the second player in C-N program history to collect All-American honors twice. Rebecca Angus accomplished the feat in the 2004 and 2006 seasons.

The Coleraine, Northern Ireland product has collected her seventh award honor since the end of the regular season, tying her own mark set in 2016. No player has received more awards in a single year with the next closest coming from assistant Julianne Herrity who earned five in 2015.

"There could've been numerous players on our team named to this but it's a very proud moment for myself," Wade exclaimed. "These are the awards you want to win and I'm absolutely over the moon."

Of her 17 goals on the year, seven of those have come in the fashion of a game-winner which is tied for a single season program record. Her 47 points this season rank third in the nation.

Helen Seed claims her first-career All-America honors cracking the USC third-team.

The four-year Carson-Newman defender continues a stellar senior campaign defensively, providing the Eagles with one of the best defenses in the nation after shutting out opponents 14 times and holding 12 different teams to six shots or less through 90 minutes.

The Preston, England native also has chipped in offensively coming up with a career-high four goals, including a back heel flip in a route of Columbus State in the Southeast Region Final.

"What a year she is having," Wade added. "She is a quality player and so are the girls around her but she's the heart of that defense. She's been brilliant."

"I was speechless when I heard my name called," Seed mentioned. "I didn't really know that it was coming but honestly this year has just been unreal on a personal level and with the entire team."

Of the three All-America teams, the Eagles claimed the most spots of any Southeast Region team, and second total to National Semifinalist Central Missouri who collected three spots.
