Carson-Newman Women's Soccer: Midfield Position Preview

VIDEO: Lara Hallgrimsdottir Interview

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Part two of a three part series previewing the 2017 Carson Newman women's soccer team will focus on the midfielders returning for the upcoming season. One of those players is sophomore Lara Hallgrimsdottir (Kopavogur, Iceland).

Hallgrimsdottir started in 11 of the 19 games in which she played last season for the Lady Eagles. As a freshman, she netted her first career goal against Limestone in the first round of the NCAA Tournament leading the Eagles to a 2-0 victory.

"The experience from every day to every year, it always gets better," said Hallgrimsdottir. "I started playing at defense so I know the role in all positions on the field and that helps out a lot. Also, getting to know your teammates better and how they play is important."

Lara will be joined by a couple returning midfielders including Jaidyn Zapf (St. Bonifacius, Minn.) who appeared in 11 games as a freshman collecting one goal on six shots, and Sydney Spadafora who appeared in 17 games last season dishing two assists and splitting time as a defender.

Junior transfer Catarina Realista (Libson, Portugal) also joins the unit, as well as freshman Madison Huffstetler (Maryville, Tenn.)

"We got Catarina in and Huff [Huffstetler] and they look really good so I'm excited to play with them," noted the sophomore midfielder. "You add them with the other girls I've played with [Zapf & Spadafora], I'm really looking forward to the season."

"We just want to play well together," added Hallgrimsdottir. "With having a new group at midfield, if we work hard and support each other, and just outrun the other team."
