KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Carson-Newman women's soccer team comes in at the No. 2 spot in the United Soccer Coaches final postseason rankings release today.
No team in the program history has finished the year with a higher final ranking.
The team started out at 25th in the nation in the preseason poll, before making pit stops at six other ranks before reaching the #2 position on Oct. 31.
Prior to 2017, the highest a C-N team has been ranked came back in the 2003 season, when the team was No. 3 in the nation following the end of season polls.
The year was a historic one in which the Eagles compiled a 21-1-1 record en route to their first ever National Championship appearance.
Many records were broken throughout the year for Simon Duffy's squad who only trailed for a total of 42:44 out of a possible 2112 minutes.
C-N was the only team in South Atlantic Conference and school history to finish regular season and conference tournament unbeaten.
They were also the first team in history of conference to win three-straight regular season titles and three-straight conference championships in the same span, recording a record of 51-5-2 excluding tournament play
The Eagles hold the most consecutive games unbeaten in school history with 22 and also recorded six clean sheets in a row from Oct. 7 to Oct. 31, topping the previous record of five set last season.
C-N also collected the most postseason awards in the programs history with 28 shattering the previous record of 2009 and 2016.
"I'm so proud that we're able to set another record here with the best final season ranking the program has ever had," Coach Simon Duffy stated. "We accomplished so much and did a lot of great things this season. I couldn't me more proud."
