JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. Carson-Newman head Women's soccer coach Simon Duffy has announced the addition of Julianne Herrity to the coaching staff as a graduate assistant.

Herrity makes the move from the pitch to the sideline after two stellar seasons with the Lady Eagles, leading the team to a South Atlantic Conference Championship in both the regular season and postseason in back-to-back years.

"I'm sure it's going to be weird for the first little bit to get used to, but I'm just so glad to be a part of the program," said Herrity. "I'll just have to control myself more on the sidelines and try not to celebrate with them too much."

The forward from Donegal, Ireland compiled 43 points in 22 games during her senior season, tallying 18 goals and adding seven helpers en route to being named to the 2016 All-SAC first-team, NSCAA All-Southeast Region first-team, D2CCA All-Southeast first-team, and to NCAA Division II Academic All-District 3. Herrity was also named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association Player of the Week twice during the season.

As a junior, Herrity appeared and started in 20 matches scoring 16 goals to go along with four assists. Seven of those 16 were game winning goals, which ranked seventh in the nation and also tied a school record.

Following that same season, she was named SAC Player of the Year, first-team All-SAC, Consensus first-team All-Southeast Region by the NSCAA and D2CCA, and third-team NSCAA All-American.

First year head coach Simon Duffy said it was a no-brainer to bring in Herrity when she was interested in returning to Mossy Creek. "Jules has been a vital part of this program over the past two years and to have her back involved with the team is incredible. The entire team respects her so much, so it will make the transition to the coaching staff a lot easier."

In just two seasons, Herrity makes an appearance on multiple categories in the Carson-Newman Individual Career Records list hitting the top three in points per game, goals per game, and game winning goals.

When asked about what her experience and knowledge can bring to the team and its new players, Herrity added, "I tell them just to give it their all, especially in preseason where it's the time to prove yourself. With only two seniors in Lauren and Helen our returners really have to step up and show these freshman that hard work can really achieve a lot of things."
