Wade corrals Female Athlete of the Year in back-to-back seasons

ROCK HILL, S.C. – It's the middle of June, and Lauren Wade is still hauling in awards from her dominant senior season at Mossy Creek. The Coleraine, Northern Ireland native, collected the South Atlantic Conference Female Athlete of the Year award from the league as announced this morning.

"I feel very honored to win this award for the second-consecutive year," Wade exclaimed. "To win any award is a great achievement but to receive this recognition and award of this caliber is something I am extremely proud of."

The honor marks the seventh time that a Carson-Newman woman has earned SAC Female Athlete of the Year, as Wade joined Heather Randolph (Softball, 1994-96) as the only Eagle to win the award in back-to-back years. Former soccer star Rebecca Angus collected the prize twice in separate years, 2004-05 and 2006-07. The list of winners also includes Marci Mitchell (Softball, 2002-03).

Wade wrapped up one of the most decorated seasons of any C-N athlete. The senior was lauded a school-record 13 times with postseason accolades. She earned All-America honors for the second time from both the D-2-C-C-A and the United Soccer Coaches. Wade also notched Southeast Region Player of the Year for the second-straight year, as well as the conference's female player of the year. She finished the year with 49 points which was good for third in the nation. In just two seasons at C-N, she notched 100 points.

It wasn't only athletic awards that the senior collected either, as she also grabbed Academic All-America honors from CoSIDA.

Wade helped lead the only team in the history of women's athletics at Carson-Newman and the South Atlantic Conference to make it to the National title game. The Eagles recorded a program-high 21 wins during the season and a record 22-straight games unbeaten. C-N outscored teams 72-12 over the 23 games and only trailed for a total of 42 minutes and 44 seconds of a possible 2,112 minutes. The Eagles became the only team in SAC history to finish the regular season and conference tournament unbeaten.

"Another amazing achievement for Lauren in her short career here at Carson-Newman," Duffy mentioned. "It will be difficult for us to ever replace a player that has had such an impact to the program."
