CoSIDA Academic All-District Release

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Holly Talbut-Smith and Lauren Wade have been named to the 2017 NCAA Division II Academic All-District 3 First-Team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America this afternoon.

The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

The District 3 first-team consists of players from the Conference Carolinas, Peach Belt and South Atlantic Conference. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be announced in December.

Talbut-Smith claims her second-consecutive first-team selection to NCAA Division II Academic All-District after joining current assistant coach Julianne Herrity in 2016.

The junior forward out of Crawley, England holds a current GPA of 3.90 with a major in exercise science.

She has collected 21 points in 17 games so far this season with six goals and nine assists and currently sits fifth in program history in career-assists with 18.

The forward also was named to First-team All-SAC on Nov. 1.

Lauren Wade picks up her first All-Academic award following yet another impressive year both on and off the field. The senior forward, who is a native of Coleraine, Northern Ireland, is pursuing an MBA at Carson-Newman while holding a 3.83 GPA.

The SAC Player of the Year has a team-high 42 points in 2017, dishing out 10 assists while collecting 16 goals.

The Academic All-District teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The CoSIDA Academic All-America separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and College Division. The College Division includes all NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
