JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The fourth-ranked Eagles have an opportunity to finish the 2017 regular season unbeaten when they kick off play against the Coker Cobras on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 1:00 p.m.
Just one team in the history of the South Atlantic Conference has finished the regular season with an overall unbeaten record, when Presbyterian College was a part of the league in 1999.
In the history of the women's soccer program at Carson-Newman, only the 2003 team has finished conference play unbeaten throughout the regular season.
The Eagles (13-0-1, 8-0-1 SAC) will stride into Hartsville, S.C. with a 14-game unbeaten streak which continues to be a program record. Despite having already clinched the SAC regular season title for the third straight season, the team is poised to continue their stellar play and carry it into the conference tournament.
"Coker still has a lot to play for as they still have a chance to make it to the conference tournament, so we need to make sure we stay focused," Duffy explained.
The Cobras (3-10-1, 1-8 SAC) have collected all three of their wins at the Coker Soccer Complex this season, despite just having five goals to their credit for all of 2017. The team has just one goal in conference play, however it came in a 1-0 victory over Lincoln Memorial. No player on the Cobras has more than one goal this season.
"It's our first overnight trip of the season," Coach Simon Duffy mentioned. "It will be interesting to see how our players will feel before the game."
C-N has trailed for a just a total of 42:44 out of a possible 1280 minutes. The Eagles have recorded five shutouts in their last six games.
The teams have met just six times in the history of the women's soccer program since 1991. Coker leads the series 4-2, but C-N has won consecutive games versus the Cobras outscoring the SAC foe 12-0 in those two meetings.
Freshman goalkeeper Samantha Hoffman, is 1-4 on the year for Coker, but has recorded three clean sheets and recorded 77 save which is good for fourth in the league.
The Eagles hold the one of the most powerful offenses in the country, ranking 6th in all of NCAA Division II Women's Soccer.
