Video: Lara Hallgrimsdottir Interview
Rock Hill, S.C. – Carson-Newman sophomore midfielder Lara Hallgrimsdottir has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week, the league announced today.
The Kopavogur, Iceland native drilled home the game winner in the 47th minute off an indirect kick from the left side of the 8-yard box, giving the Eagles a win over nationally ranked Wingate.
The 25th-ranked Bulldogs had not lost a single game in the South Atlantic Conference going into the day.
Teammate Holly Talbut-Smith lightly touched the ball putting it on the right foot of Hallgrimsdottir who planted and lined it by the charging Bulldog defenders and into the back of the net for her fourth goal of the 2017 season. Two of her five career goals have registered as game winners.
"I've been in the situation when playing at home, but not as close to the goal. We knew we needed a touch there before we hit it because they were all set up on the left side," Hallgrimsdottir explained. "I just to smash it in that right side as quickly as I could to get it by the players."

The game-winning goal helped Carson-Newman continue a 12-game unbeaten streak which ties a program record to start a season. Also, the win would gave the team its 20th consecutive game at McCown Field without a loss, dating back to September of 2015.
"I'm glad we kept our composure in that situation," Coach Simon Duffy stated. "There's no one else as calm and as cool in front of the ball than her, and I'm glad she was there. It was a fantastic finish."
