Kansas City, Mo. – The Carson-Newman women's soccer program has been recognized as one of the 533 women's soccer teams to receive the College Team Academic Award for the 2016-17 year, as announced by the United Soccer Coaches this morning.
The award is given to teams who post a grade point average of 3.0 or higher, as the Eagles posted a 3.08 team average a year ago.
"Very pleased to have received the award as it's something this University and the program holds very high," said Head Coach Simon Duffy. "The team has been very successful both on and off the field over a number of years, and it's one of our goals as a team to continue to do well in the classroom moving forward."
C-N continues to impress on the pitch after collecting another win on Wednesday, Oct. 4 defeating Lincoln Memorial 5-2. The Eagle unbeaten in 2017 and continued a 19-game stretch to stay unbeaten at McCown Field dating back to 2015.
"The accolades from our performances are great but we have made it known to the players about how important it is to take their studies," added Duffy. "We look forward to building on that for years to come."
