16 Eagles Qualify for Finals at Day Two Prelims of the BMC Championships

RESULTS

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Carson-Newman Eagles swim team saw 16 different athletes qualify for either 'A' or 'B' finals during the preliminary events of day two of the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships.

Senior Caleb Howell (Easley, S.C.) won the 400-yard individual medley at 3:50.98. The first-place finish will earn him a top spot in the 'A' finals this evening.

Howell is fresh off a conference champion laurel after winning the 200-yard individual medley in the 'A' final last night.

Sophomore Joey Clemmer (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) placed 14th in the event at 4:06.71, placing him inside the top-16, good enough for a spot in the 'B' final.

In the women's 100-yard butterfly, freshman Manon Compagner (Balkbrug, Netherlands) took third in the prelims, so she will also see the 'A' final of the event this evening.

Compagner took fourth in the 'A' final of the 50-yard freestyle yesterday, winning All-Conference honors and achieving a lifetime-best time in the process.

Junior CJ Jensen (Copenhagen, Denmark) and junior Laurel Sankowski (Indian Trail N.C.) finished 12th and 16th in the event, respectively. Both will have the opportunity to compete in the 'B' final of the race at night.

Jensen also made it to the 'A' final in the 400-yard individual medley by taking third in the prelims with a mark of 4:27.10. She will be joined by sophomore Meredith Ginn (Ocala, Fla.) who finished fourth at 4:29.59.

Freshman Rachel Peden (Boiling Springs, S.C.) finished tenth in the prelims, qualifying her for the 'B' final. Peden secured her first-ever All-Conference honor yesterday after placing fifth in the 'A' final of the 1000-yard freestyle.

The men's 100-yard butterfly saw sophomore Andrei Ungur (Romania) finished third at 48.52. Fellow Eagle Ivo Kunzle (Asuncion, Paraguay) was right behind him at 48.89. The two will compete in the 'A' final this evening.

Junior Chad Andoljsek (Slovenia) made it to the 'B' final after finishing 10th in 50.07.

Freshman Summer Osborne (Clearwater, Fla.) splashed her way into the 'B' final of the women's 200-yard freestyle, tapping the wall at 1:53.75 in the prelims.

Sophomore Mathew George (Manchester, England) snuck into the 'A' final of the 200-yard freestyle after taking eighth in the prelims at 1:38.30.

Three Eagles, freshman Raphael de Paiva (Sao Paolo, Brazil), junior Nikola Tadic (Croatia) and freshman Brandon Meier (Greenville, S.C.) will all swim in the event's 'B' final after winding up tenth, 15th and 16th respectively in the original race.

The team will continue its trek through the conference championships tonight during the final events at 7:30 p.m.
