Four Eagles Plow Into Top-Three in Finals of the Second Day of BMC Championship

RESULTS

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The C-N swim team saw 10 Eagles win All-Conference honors during final events at day two of the BMC Conference Championships.

Junior CJ Jensen (Copenhagen, Denmark) placed second in the 400-yard individual medley at 4:24.55, a school record, receiving All-Conference honors and a silver medal.

"Her prelim time was really good this morning as well," Carson-Newman coach Jordan Taylor said. "We talked about it, made some tweaks and she performed well in the final. It's one of her top events and she was able to put it all tgether and put out an all-around strong performance."

Sophomore Meredith Ginn also won All-Conference laurels after placing fifth at 4:29.49.

Freshman Rachel Peden (Boiling Springs, S.C.) won the 'B' final of the event in 4:31.99.

Senior Caleb Howell (Easley, S.C.) took second in the men's 400-yard individual medley, tapping the wall at 3:53.51. Howell earns his second medal of the conference championships after winning gold in the 200-yard individual medley last night.

Sophomore Joey Clemmer (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) finished eighth in the 'B' iteration of the event.

Freshman Manon Compagner (Balkbrug, Netherlands) won bronze by finishing third in the 100-yard butterfly at 54.02. It's the first conference medal for the newcomer.

"It was another lifetime-best for her," Taylor said. "She was swimming against some of the best swimmers in the country so she handled the pressure well. Every time she swims she's getting closer and closer to the school record, I think she's now 0.4 seconds behind it so maybe that's a record she can take down at Nationals in four weeks' time."

Jensen also took second in the 'B' final of this event. Right behind her was fellow junior Laurel Sankowski (Indian Trail N.C.) who took fifth in the 'B' race.

Sophomore Andrei Ungur (Romania) took a silver medal home by finishing second in the 100-yard butterfly at 47.71.

"He raced very aggressively and fast at the 75-yard marker but kind of ran out of energy the last few yards," Taylor said. "That said, it was a new lifetime-best for him and a school record so it was a great performance for him."

He was followed by Ivo Kunzle who also took an All-Conference time by finishing fifth at 48.98.

Junior Chad Andoljsek finished third in the 100-yard butterfly 'B' final.

Freshman Summer Osborne (Clearwater, Fla.) and sophomore Julia Fomina (Russia) finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 'B' final for the 200-yard freestyle.

In the men's version of the event, sophomore Mathew George (Manchester, England) took fourth, winning All-Conference honors.

Freshman Raphael de Paiva (Sao Paolo, Brazil) won the 'B' final of the event.

Junior Nikola Tadic (Croatia) and freshman Brandon Meier (Greeneville, S.C.) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

The were two relays this evening of the conference championships, the 200-yard freestyle and the 400-yard medley relays.

C-N won All-Conference in the 400-yard medley relay after both the men and women finished third in the event.

Jensen, Compagner, senior Mary Northcutt (Huntsville, Ala.) and freshman Kailee Morgan (Greenville, S.C.) teamed up to finish at 3:46.73.
