Carson-Newman Men’s Golf Team Announces Fall Slate

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn – The fall portion of the 2016 schedule for Coach Randy Wylie and the Carson-Newman men's golf team has been announced.

Coach Wylie and his club have four tournaments on the docket for this fall, three of which will take the group to Florida with the other being played right here in Tennessee.

The season begins with C-N's second consecutive trip to the St. Leo Men's Invitational at the Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club in Tampa, FL on September 19th and 20th. The Eagles posted an impressive seventh place showing at last year's event. Senior Andrew Hall had a phenomenal tourney, as his score of 202 was the best 54-hole total ever carded by a South Atlantic Conference player and put him in a tie for second place.

"St. Leo [University] is the defending national champion, so we are starting the year off in the deep end of the pool," said Coach Wylie, "but we've got a really talented young team with a couple good leaders in Dalton Reece and Jake Headrick."

After a week off, the schedule takes the team to Orlando, FL for The National Preview at ReUnion, which is set for October 3rd and 4th at the ReUnion Golf Club. This is the first of three October competitions for the Eagles.

"It's really nice to be invited to play in the National Preview," Coach Wylie said. "Our first two tournaments are two of the toughest tournaments you could put on your docket. It's gonna be a great challenge but we're looking forward to it."

One week after The National Preview, the team has its only fall event in Tennessee at the State Farm Intercollegiate in Tazewell. This is the Eagles' third straight year at the Woodlake Golf Club, the home of the tournament. Last year, they didn't leave empty handed. The team shot a combined 10-under on the second day to edge out Lincoln Memorial for the tournament title.

"I expect the same level of success," said Coach Wylie. "We know this course very well and we're going to have to be prepared."

The golfers close out autumn with their fourth straight year at the McDonough Cup at the Rio Pinar County Club in Orlando. In 2015, they finished 12th in a field of 22.
