More plaudits role in for Forster, frosh brings home honors from GCAA

SUGAR GROVE, Ill. - A day after earning All-Region honors from PING, freshman men's golfer Tom Forster (Oundle, England) has grabbed a spot on the GCAA All-Freshman team.

Forster is the first Eagle to make the national All-Freshman team.  He joins Toto Gana of Lynn, California Baptist's Trevor Lampson, and Elis Svard of CSU Monterey Bay on the All-Freshmen Team.  Those players all finish as finalists to Division II Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman Award winner Felix Kvarnstrom of Lynn.

Forster was named South Atlantic Conference Freshman of the Year and was a first-team All-SAC selection.

He crafted the fifth-best stroke average in the conference at 72.2 strokes and ended the year on a streak of five consecutive top 10 finishes with six total to his credit for the season.

Forster scored under par in five tournaments.  His best effort came at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate when he finished second at nine-under, two shots behind teammate Jake Headrick.  Forters's three-round 207 is one of the top  10 three-round scores in South Atlantic Conference history and would have been the second best score in school history if not for Headrick's efforts.

His second round 66 in Sevierville tied for the lowest 18 hole score by an Eagle during the year.

Forster was two-under at the end of the 2017 NCAA South/Southeast Super Regional, the Eagles' highest finisher.
