Eagles close out fall with 10th place finish in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Carson-Newman men's golf team finished their fall schedule on Tuesday, playing the final round of the McDonough Cup at Rio Pinar Country Club in Orlando, Fla., where they tied for 10th , shooting an 897 that put the at +33.

"We got a nice round today from freshman Tom Forster (Oundle, England)," coach Randy Wylie said. "I'm very excited about our team and our prospects as we head into a very strong spring season."

Forster's day saw him tie for the fifth-best score on the tournament's final day with a two-under 70, which was also his team's best round of the event. He knocked two strokes off his mark for the competition, dropping to four-over and also moved up 12 spots on the leaderboard to finish in a tie for 16th.

One of the players tied with Forster was senior Dalton Reese (Warrenton, Ga.), who continued his consistent play by posting a two-over 74. Through twelve rounds of golf this fall, Reese did not put up a single score worse then two-over.

Jake Headrick (Maryville, Ga.) came up with Carson-Newman's third score, as he fell off by a stroke, carding a 76 after finishing day one with a pair of 75s to his credit. The Maryville native closed things out tied for 42nd at +10.

Fintan McKenna (Westhill, U.K.) showed marked improvement over his final 18 holes, slicing four shots off his score from the final round on Monday for a 75 on Tuesday. He moved up six spots and tied for 61st in the final rankings. Alex Hutson (Newport, Tenn.) finished fifth on the roster, placing 94th.

Rollins College, the host school for this event and No. 13 in the nation, looked right at home, taking the tournament title by finishing three-under, nine strokes better than second place Flagler, the county's No. 24 team. Rollins also benefitted from having the tourney's individual champion on their roster, as Jakob Van de Flierdt shot six-under to claim the prize.

The Eagles next competition isn't until February, when they will head to Jacksonville, Fla. for the Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate on the 13th and 14th
