SALISBURY, N.C. – After more than four inches of rain in the last 24 hours at the SAC Men's Golf Championships in Salisbury, N.C. caused flooding on the Country Club of Salisbury's back nine, the tournament committee decided on Monday to change the competition to a 27-hole event rather than the 54 that were originally scheduled and cancel all play on Monday. The conference championships will be completed with nine more holes on Tuesday.
The final day of play will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the completion of the first round, as four groups were unable to finish all 18 holes on Sunday before play was suspended. The final round, which will consist of one trip through the front nine for each student-athlete, is then set for a 10:30 a.m. start.
The No. 25 Carson-Newman men's golf team is currently in possession of first place with a four stroke lead on Queens (N.C.) and Newberry. Jake Headrick (Maryville, Tenn.) and Anthony Marcinelli (Knoxville, Tenn.) are tied with four other players for third with Dalton Reese (Warrenton, Ga.) sharing ninth. Headrick, Reese and Tom Forster (Oundle, England) are among those who will begin Tuesday by putting the final touches on their first 18 holes.
