Eagles head to Georgia for Berry Kick-Off tournament

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Following three straight 5-0 sweeps from their opening weekend, the Eagles will venture to Mount Berry, Georgia this Friday and Saturday for four more matches at the Berry Kick-Off.

Carson-Newman will play a wide variety of team this weekend, from a Division I matchup with Tennessee Tech, to Division II against Erskine, and two Division III matches against LaGrange and Berry. 

On Friday the 23rd, C-N will start bright and early against Erskine at 8 am. Last season at their home opening match, the Eagles broke a school record for wins in a season after their matchup with the Erskine Fleet. 

The Fleet will kick of their 2024 season against the Eagles on Friday. 

Following their sunrise match on Friday, C-N will see LaGrange at 3 pm. In both matches with LaGrange last season, the Eagles won 5-0. LaGrange collectively won one set against Carson-Newman last season. 

Saturday holds another double header for C-N, beginning with Tennessee Tech at noon. The Eagles conclude the weekend against the hosts of the Kick-Off tournament, Berry College. 

Last season was Tech's first year with a beach program and went 7-12 overall. Carson-Newman matched with TTU for the first time at Berry last season and won 4-1, losing only in the third flight. Tech came to Mossy Creek later in the season for a double header where the Eagles managed to nab two perfect sweeps over them. 

To conlcude play, Carson-Newman will face the hosts of the weekend, the Berry College Vikings. The Vikings have begun their 2024 season 0-2 after their opening weekend with Tusculum and Truett McConnell. In their singular meeting last season, C-N won 4-1, losing only in the first seed.
