Hayes Leads the Way for C-N Through Two Rounds at Rollins Ross Invitational

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. – The Carson-Newman women's golf team began their fall 2016 schedule at the Ross Rollins Invitational on Monday and through two rounds of play, they are in ninth place.

Taylor Hayes (Lake Ozark, Mo.) has led the way for the Eagles for the first 36 holes. She shot a 79 followed by a 77 and her 156 puts her at +12, which is good enough to tie for 16th place.

"It was a tough start for the Lady Eagles," Coach Suzanne Strudwick said. "It was nervous first 18, but I was very impressed with our comeback. Taylor led the way with two consistent rounds in the 70s. I was also really pleased with how determined Elizabeth England (Oakland, Tenn.) was after an uncharacteristic first round. She came back and posted a 75 and Reagan Kinnie (Murfreesboro, Tenn.), one of our freshman, shot a 77. We've got 18 more holes tomorrow to move up the leaderboard."

After have a rough first round, Kinnie and England both bounced back in the afternoon and are separated by just one stroke. Kinnie's 84 and 77 put her in 30th place at +17, while England's recovery after a first round 87 puts her at +18.

Senior Jessica Hart (Roanoke, Va.) sits in 58th place while freshman Allie Fletcher (Cumming, Ga) is in 60th.

Currently leading the tournament is the host school Rollins College. The Tars entered the year as defending national champions and the top-ranked squad in the nation. Barry University is in second place, four strokes off the lead while Nova Southeastern is in third and 10 shots back.

The final 18 holes of the tournament will be played tomorrow. A full recap with details of the invitational will be posted at cneagles.com.
