Eagles in a tie for ninth after day one at Flagler Fall Slam

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The first 18 holes of the Flagler Fall Slam are in the books and the Carson-Newman women's golf team is tied for ninth after shooting a 319 on the day, which puts them at 31-over par.

"Allowing for a couple of hiccup holes, we are in good shape after day one," coach Suzanne Strudwick said. "A steady 75 from Elizabeth [England] (Oakland, Tenn.) and a good 79 from Allie Fletcher (Cumming, Ga.) are keeping us respectable. Marsh Creek is a difficult course and we have to put a premium on ball striking. I expect Reagan [Kinnie] (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) to do much better tomorrow and Taylor [Hayes] (Lake Ozark, Mo.) should do much better as well. We are poised for a good team score tomorrow and working up the leaderboard."

England entered this tournament after winning the King Intercollegiate her last time out and she once again led her team on the leaderboard. Her score of three-over has her tied for eighth and she is five strokes off the lead.

Fletcher entered the clubhouse with C-N's second best score, a seven-over 79. She currently sits in a tie for 32nd.

Hayes, who earned her sixth career top 10 finish at the King Intercollegiate, is tied for 47th place after carding a nine-over 81.

The team's fourth score came from Kinnie, who is tied for 66th and 12 strokes over par. Jessica Hart (Roanoke, Va.) is tied for 75th and 15 shots over par.

C-N also has freshman Rachel Watts (Newport, Tenn.) playing in the event as an individual and she is tied for 85th.

There are two teams tied for the lead after day one, as both Flagler and Barry are at 13-over. The individual leader is Ciara Rattana of Tusculum, who shot a two-under 70.

The tournament still has one round to go and that will be played on Tuesday. A full wrap-up of C-N's performance in day two will be posted on cneagles.com.
