Hayes cards best day two score as Eagles tie for ninth

ELGIN, S.C. – Playing their final round of golf this fall, the Carson-Newman women's golf team finished the Newberry College Regional Preview tied for ninth after shooting a 627 +51 at The Members Club at Woodcreek in Elgin S.C.

The Eagles recorded a +26 on Tuesday, the tournament's final day, one stroke worse than their round one score, and also fell one spot from eighth into a tie for ninth.

"We had some good and some not so good today," coach Suzanne Strudwick said. "Taylor [Hayes] (Lake Ozark, Mo.) had an excellent finish with a team-low 74 and Allie [Fletcher] (Cumming, Ga.) came back with a 78. I know Elizabeth [England] (Oakland, Tenn.) is disappointed with an 84 today. We were poised for a top seven finish, but a couple of loose shots and putts dropped us back. We're looking forward to a rest but working towards improvement in the spring."

For the second time in the fall, Hayes put up her team's best score, tying for 13th with a plus-seven. Hayes was three stokes better on Tuesday than she was on Monday, carding a 74 which allowed her to move up nine spots on the leaderboard.

Reagan Kinnie (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) entered the clubhouse with a 79 for the second straight day, giving her a final score of +14 and tying her for 36th.

England's rough day saw her fall eight strokes off the pace she set on Tuesday, when her 76 led the team and tied her for 16th. England's day two 84 dropped her into a tie for 50th.

Fletcher showed the most second round improvement among C-N's players, as she took eight strokes off her Monday score for a 78 and a +20 over 36 holes. That mark tied her for 54th with, among other participants, C-N senior Jessica Hart (Roanoke, Va.) who scored an 83 over her final 18.

Florida Tech left Elgin with the trophy, as their plus-nine 585 was ten strokes better than second-place West Florida. The Panthers also had one of their student-athletes claim the individual crown, as Brittany LaPadula took home the prize.
