England Sets SAC Record as Eagles Win King Intercollegiate

BRISTOL, Tenn – Elizabeth England (Oakland, Tenn.) tied a SAC record by shooting a final round 68 to post a 143 and capture the individual title at the King Intercollegiate while also helping the Carson-Newman women's golf team win the event with a score of 608, edging out host school King University by three strokes.

This is the fourth time in program history C-N has won a tournament while also having a golfer top the event leaderboard.

"Today was magical," Golf Coach Suzanne Strudwick said. "I'm so pleased with how we stepped up and came out with a really great win. A career low for Elizabeth and Reagan Kinnie finishing second. Every player shot better today. This is what we're capable of. As a coach, you know your players and their potential. To get to that level so fast in the season is really satisfying."

England was four strokes off the lead heading into Tuesday, but her score of -3 was five shots better than any other golfer in the final round. England parred 26 of the 36 holes over two days, more than any other competitor. This is her third career victory, as she also won one tournament as a freshman and one as a sophomore.

"It's awesome," England said. "Everything worked well for me today. I was hitting the ball solid and I stayed focused on one hole at a time. I'm just glad my score helped us win."

Freshman Reagan Kinnie (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) finished just four strokes off the pace set by her teammate with a 147. She earned second place with +5 after a 74 in round two. Kinnie's eight birdies tied for the most in the intercollegiate.

Sophomore Taylor Hayes (Lake Ozark, Mo) knocked four strokes off her Monday score with 76 on Tuesday and moved from tied for 16th to tied for 10th.

Allie Fletcher (Cumming, Ga), played in her second collegiate tournament, improved six shots with a 78 for a 162. She birdied six holes during the event, tied for the second most. Her +20 tied her for 19th. Jessica Hart (Roanoke, Va.) scored a +26 to tie for 29th.

Rachel Watts (Newport, Tenn.) played in her first tournament in Bristol, competing in the tournament as an individual, and finished 31st with a +29.
