Through day one, Eagles in eighth place at Newberry College Regional Preview

ELGIN, S.C – With one round of golf in the books at the Newberry College Regional Preview, the Carson-Newman women's golf team sits in eighth place with a score of 313 that puts them 25 shots over par.

"The team is definitely up for the challenge this week," coach Suzanne Strudwick said. "We are excited and ready for a strong finish to end the fall series of events. Today, we played tough, the team is focused, practiced hard and is looking to move up the leaderboard. We left a couple of loose shots in the closing holes that I know we will improve upon tomorrow."

Elizabeth England (Oakville, Tenn.) continues to be coach Strudwick's most consistent performer. After entering the event as her team's top qualifier, she shot a four-over 76 to lead the Eagles through 18 holes. For the tournament, she is currently tied for 16th.

Just one stroke behind England is sophomore Taylor Hayes (Lake Ozark, Mo.). Her five-over 77 has her tied for 22nd.

Freshman Reagan Kinnie (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) carded C-N's third best score of day one with a 79 that tied her for 31st.

Jessica Hart (Roanoke, Va.) entered the clubhouse tied for 49th with a nine-over 81. Allie Fletcher (Cumming, Ga.) 86 has her at +14 and tied for 59th.

Also golfing in Elgin is freshman Rachel Watts (Newport, Tenn.), who is playing in the tournament as an individual. She is 65th with a score of +19.

Florida Tech and West Florida are currently tied for the tourney lead, as they are both six shots over par. Nova Southeastern is in third place, four strokes off the lead, Rollins College is five back and Florida Southern is in fifth at +18.

Paloma Vaccaro from West Florida leads all players with a three-under 69. Lauren Lamm, another West Florida student-athlete, and Sarah Thomas of Florida Tech are tied for second, two shots back.
