Forrest and Resende Advance After Day One of the ITA Regionals

SUMTER, S.C.- Natasha Forrest and Ana Carla Resende move on in doubles and singles action.

Resende earns a first-round bye after coming into the tournament as the number three seed. She faced off against Valentina Loretz. The first set was settled in an overtime set, but Resende rose victorious 7-5. She dominated the second set 6-1.

Resende will move on to play Evgeniya Pugina at 4:00 P.M. on Saturday.

Natasha Forrest matched up against Silivia Fernandez of Barton College. Fernandez captured the first set 6-3. Forrest went on to win the next two with scores of 6-1 and 6-0. Forrest moved onto the round of 64, where she met 3rnd ranked Valentina Ascarrunz of Lincoln Memorial University. Forrest won in sets of 6-3 and 6-2.

Forrest will move onto the round of 32 to compete against the 16th seed, Luciana Galves, at 3:30 P.M.

Summer Reeves went against SAC rival Aina Mirailes of Newberry University. Mirailes won in back-to-back sets of 6-4 and 6-4.

Anita Chornei played against Elizabeth Vollmin at noon on Friday. Chornei dominated with sets of 6-2 and 6-0 to capture the victory. Chornei moved on to play against Elena Gunfaus. Gunfaus pulled away with sets of 6-2 and 6-3 to send the Eagle home.

Violetta Khisamova matched up against Laura Jipescu. Jipescu won the match with sets of 6-3 and 6-1.

Julia Speiser won her first match of the day against Anna Concalves. Speiser moved on to face the number two seed in Nadja Meier. Meier looked the part as she won in sets of 6-2 and 6-0.

The Eagles began doubles play, starting with Resende and Forrest matching up against Hanna Panchal and Roberta Armani. Resende and Forrest proved too much to handle and won in a game of 8-1. The Eagles duo will move on to play against Ylva Landa Frafjord and Leonie Floeth on Saturday at 10:30 A.M.

Mollie Edge and Summer Reeves competed against Nele Weber and Liza Voloshyna from The University of Mount Olive. The Eagles fell 8-4.

Chornei and Khisamova faced off against Vicky Beardsley and Carolina Correia in the final doubles match of the day for the Eagles. Beardsley and Correia took the hard-fought dub in a game of 8-5.
