Eagles Drop Season Debut Against North Georgia

DAHLONEGA, Ga. - Carson-Newman drops their season opener against North Georgia on Sunday, Feb. 5th, with a final score of 6-1.

The Eagles have yet to win their first game of the season since the 2020 season when the Eagles finished 6-4.

Doubles:

Summer Reeves and Natasha Forrest began in the one spot for the Eagles. The duo won their set 7-6 against North Georgia's Johanna Lipert and Viktorie Wojcikova.

Julia Speiser and Maria Ulloa were slotted into the two spot for Carson-Newman. Nighthawks Svetlana Teterina and Angelina Linnikova won the set 6-2.

Anita Chornei and Mollie Edge filled out the three position for the Eagles. Chornei and Edge were lined up against Valentina Ascarrunz and Sandra Recueno. The Nighthawks won the final doubles match 7-6.

North Georgia won two of the three doubles matches, giving the Nighthawks the early 1-0 advantage.

Singles:

Forrest began the season in the one spot for the Eagles. Forrest was able to push both sets into tiebreaking sets but lost 7-5 in both sets.

Chornei faced off against North Georgia's Markvartova in the two spot. Chornei cruised to a 6-3 victory in the first set and grinded out a 7-6 tiebreaker set to win the sole point for the Eagles.

Reeves settled into the three spot to begin the season for the Eagles. Reeves dropped the first set against Lipert 6-4 but was able to come back in the second set 6-2. Reeves was unable to find her footing in the final set, losing 6-1.

Ulloa faced off against Ashley Moinard in the four spot. Moinard took an early advantage, a first-set win of 6-1. Ulloa could never capture momentum and lost the second set 6-4.

Speiser lost in the five spot in consecutive 6-1 sets. Mollie Edge dropped her two sets in the sixth spot with scores of 6-0.

Carson-Newman returns to action on Friday, Feb. 10th, against Lander College. The first serve begins at 1:00 P.M.
