Eagles Make Mossy Creek Debut with Matchup Against Catawba

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman women's tennis (0-5) begins conference play with their home opener against Catawba College (3-0) on Saturday, Mar. 4th.

Carson-Newman finished last season 10-2 in conference play, leading to third place in the conference. Catawba held a record of 5-16, including a 2-10 record in conference play.

The Eagles law saw Catabwa on Mar. 16th of last year. Carson-Newman won the matchup 7-0. Chornei dominated her matchup in the six spot, winning 8-0. Reeves won 6-2 and 6-3 in the two spot. Forrest won 6-3, 4-6, and 6-0 in the four position. The Eagles won each doubles matchup.

 Despite the 0-5 start for Carson-Newman, Chornei, and Forrest both have a positive record on the year. Chornei is 4-1 on the year while bouncing between the one and two position. Reeves holds a 3-2 record primarily in the two spot, with a pair of matches in the one.

"Natasha and Anita are good examples for the team," women's tennis head coach Felipe Charry said. "Tash is having a good season in singles and doubles. Anita is competing very well, no matter who's in front. They are both bringing up the rest of the team.

Catawba began the year with a 4-3 win over Mount Olive. They went on to defeat Emory and Henry 6-1. They started conference play with a 5-2 victory over Limestone on Mar. 1st.

The Eagles will face off against Lenoir Rhyne on Wednesday, followed by a matchup against Limestone next Saturday.

"Three conference games in one week is tough, but I think we can make it. We will be performing the way that we should," Charry said.
