Carson-Newman Hosts Pioneers Before Trip to #27 Anderson

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman women's tennis (0-8) returns to the Buddy Catlett Tennis Complex to take on Tusculum University (5-4) on Wednesday, Mar. 15th, before facing #27 Anderson (7-1) on Saturday, Mar. 18th.

The Eagles feature the #24 player in the ITA's NCAA D-II Singles Rankings in Anita Chornei. Chornei is 4-4 on the year, including a win in a matchup against #24 Ashleigh Simes of the Lee Flames. Natasha Forrest and Summer Reeves are the 29th-ranked doubles pair. They hold a 2-3 record so far.

Forrest holds the best record in singles play so far this season. The Junior from Jersey, U.K., has a 5-3 record on the year playing primarily as the two where she is 4-2. Reeves and Chornei each have four wins. Chornei has played mainly in the one with slight action in the two. Reeves has seen equal work in the three and four spots.

Forrest and Julia Speiser have won two of the six successful doubles matchups this season. Forrest/Reeves also have a pair of wins. Mollie Edge/ Speiser and Edge/Reeves are the other pairings with a victory.

Tusculum began the year with a 6-1 victory over Milligan and a 7-0 win over North Greenville. The Pioneers lost 4-3 to Lee and Charleston (W.V.). They bounced back with a 7-0 victory over Young Harris. They moved on to lose to #9 North Georgia 7-0. They began conference play with a 7-0 victory over Mars Hill before closing out Feb. With a 7-0 win over Bluefield St. They lost 7-0 in their most recent action against #18 Flagler. The Pioneers do not have any ITA-ranked players.

The Eagles defeated Tusculum last season in a 5-2 contest on Apr. 6th. Forrest and Chornei won their matchups in the five and six spots to aid in Carson-Newman's victory. The Eagles won all three doubles matchups, a feat they have yet to accomplish this season.

Anderson started out with a 7-0 victory over USC Sumter before defeating Emmanuel (Ga.) 4-0 and North Greenville 6-1. They began Feb. With a 6-1 victory over Converse before hosting Erskine in a 4-3 win. They started conference play with a 7-0 win over Emory & Henry before losing their first match of the season in a contest against Newberry. The Trojans played their most recent match against Lincoln Memorial University. The Trojans won 5-2. Anderson does not have an ITA-ranked player despite being the 27th-ranked team.

The Eagles defeated Anderson twice last season. The first matchup was a 4-3 victory on Apr. 13th. A week later, Carson-Newman defeated the Trojans 5-2 in the SAC Women's Tennis Championship Quarterfinals.

Action will begin at 1:00 P.M. against Tusculum on Wednesday at the Buddy Catlett Tennis Complex in Jefferson City, Tenn. The Eagles will then travel to Anderson, S.C., to take on Anderson University at 1:00 P.M on Saturday.
