Conference Matchup Awaits Women's Tennis in Hickory

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman women's tennis (0-6) will compete in their second conference matchup of the season when they take on Lenoir-Rhyne (6-4) on Wednesday, Mar. 8th.

The Eagles finished 10-2 in conference play last season but began this year's conference play with a 4-3 loss to Catawba College. Summer Reeves, Mollie Edge, and Natasha Forrest were the Eagles that scored points last Saturday. The Eagles were forced to forfeit one of the singles points and a doubles matchup to give the Indians the 4-3 victory.

The Eagles have withstood three separate 4-3 loss this season and have forfeited sets in two of those matchups.

The Bears began the season with a 4-1 loss to Lander before winning against Barton and Mount Olive. They lost 4-3 to Mount Olive a week later. They won two games against Belmont Abbey and UVA-Wise before losing to Charleston and Lees-McRae. The Bears closed out February with a win over Francis Marion before defeating Emory & Henry 6-1. The Bears lost their most recent action against Erskine 4-3 last Saturday.

Anita Chornei and Natasha Forrest lead the Eagles in wins so far this season with four. Chornei has split her time between the one and the two, with a pair of wins coming at each. Forrest picked up three of her wins in the two and has a solo victory in the one. Edge has three wins in the five, and Reeves has a pair of wins in the four.

The Eagles won their most recent matchup against Lenoir-Rhyne last year on Mar. 26th. Carson-Newman was not ranked, but the Bears were ranked 13th. Chornei and Reeves won their Singles matchups. Reeves and Speiser won their doubles matchups.

Doubles action will begin at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the YMCA in Catawba Valley.

The Eagles will move on to play at Limestone at 2:00 P.M. next Saturday.
