ROCK HILL, S.C. – Carson-Newman senior longsnapper Andrew Bradshaw has been named the South Atlantic Conference's Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the league office announced Wednesday afternoon.

The South Atlantic Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year award is presented annually to one student-athlete in each of the Conference's championship sports and is voted on by the SAC's Faculty Athletic Representatives Committee. The winners are selected based on their achievements in academics, athletics, service and leadership.

"I'd like to Congratulate Andrew for winning the Scholar Athlete of the Year in the SAC," Carson-Newman head football coach Ashley Ingram said. "Andrew exemplifies everything we are looking for in our program - he is a great player, outstanding student, but, more importantly, a person of great character and strong Christian faith."

Bradshaw is the first Eagle to win the award since William Alderman (2014) and the fourth overall.  He joins elite company of Alderman, Joey King (2004) and Charlie Walker (2000).

Bradshaw received postseason honors from the league office for his play at longsnapper at the end of his freshman, sophomore and senior seasons.  He finished his career with All-Mountain Division honors.

Carson-Newman didn't have any punts blocked this season thanks to Bradshaw's longsnapping prowess.

In 41 career games, Bradshaw has only seen two punts or kicks blocked and those attempts were both 50-plus, line-drive field goals that ricocheted off the line seeking extra distance.

Bradshaw was also awarded with the South Atlantic Conference's Wealth Enhancement Group Elite 23 Award.

Bradshaw received his trophy prior to Carson-Newman's SAC title game appearance with Wingate.

That award honors the student-athlete with the top cumulative grade-point average (based on a minimum of 48 credit hours) in each of the league's 23 team championship sports.

Bradshaw, who has completed 142 credit hours, holds a 3.917 GPA studying business administration.

He is a two-time, soon-to-be three-time CSC Academic All-District selection and a member of the National Football Foundation's Hampshire Honor Society.  He has also been a member of the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll and an Eagle Scholar for the duration of his collegiate career.

Bradshaw has a voluminous resume for community service and leadership.  In the offseason, he volunteers with Meals on Wheels in the China Grove/Salisbury, N.C. area. He has been a member of both the Carson-Newman football leadership committee and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes leadership committee.

Furthermore, he has volunteered with his home church – Faith Lutheran with their Christmas programs, Sunday school and events for children.  He has also volunteered through them for the relay for life.  Locally, he has helped at Manley Baptist Church with its Luke 14 program, a program to benefit children with special needs.
