Eagles 11th, Ashby Tied for Third after First Day of Aflac/Cougar Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ga. — The Carson-Newman men's golf team finished in 11th place after completing two rounds at the Aflac/Cougar Invitational on Monday at the Country Club of Columbus in Columbus, Ga.

The Eagles shot a two-round total of 602 (298-304, +34) on the par-71 course and missed the cut for Tuesday's match play round, as only the top eight teams advanced. Host Columbus State is in the lead after turning in a score of 576 (288-288, +8). North Alabama and Valdosta State are close behind in a tie for second with a score of 577 (+9).

C-N junior Liam Ashby (Dublin, Ireland) is in a two-way tie for third at 1-under after carding rounds of 71 and 70 on Monday. Ashby is tied with Valdosta State's Michael Rafalowicz and is three strokes behind Barry's Daniel Stapff, who leads the tournament with a two-round total of 138 (-4).

Sophomore Gavin Hay (Glasgow, Scotland) is in a tie for 48th with a score of 151 (75-76, +9), while Jonathan Kim Moss (Mississauga, Canada) is tied for 55th with a two-round score of 155 (79-75, +12) and Jordan Patrick (Abingdon, Va.) is in a tie for 65th after turning in a score of 156 (73-83, +14) on the day. John Minor, Jr. (Dandridge, Tenn.) rounds out the field for C-N with a 168 (80-88, +26).
