Hay moves into tie for seventh after second round of NCAA South/Southeast Super Regional

DELAND, Fla. — Carson-Newman sophomore Gavin Hay (Glasgow, Scotland) carded a second-round 1-over-par 73 on Tuesday to move into a tie for seventh place at the 2011 NCAA Division II South/Southeast Super Regional men's golf tournament at Victoria Hills Golf Club.

Hay is just three shots off the lead with a two-round score of 144 (E). Lynn's Ricardo Gouveia leads the tournament with a score of 141 (67-74, -3). Hay enters the final round in position to qualify for the NCAA Championships, as the top two individuals not on one of the five qualifying teams advances. He is currently in a tie for the second qualifying spot.

C-N junior Liam Ashby (Dublin, Ireland) shot a 78 (+6) on Tuesday and is tied for 71st with a two-round total of 154 (+10).

Barry leads the tournament with a score of 579 (+3), followed by Lynn (581), Barton College (583), Newberry (584) and West Florida (586).

The top five teams and top two student-athletes not with one of those five teams (regardless of region) advance to the National Tournament on May 16-20 at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at the Shoals in Florence, Ala. Twenty teams are participating in the Super Regional.

The final round of the NCAA South/Southeast Super Regional will be held on Wednesday. Hay is set to tee off at noon, while Ashby will begin his final round at 8:10 a.m.
