Eagles finish eighth at Queens Invitational at TPC Sawgrass

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. - The Carson-Newman Eagles closed the Queens University Invitational with their best round of the tournament, firing a 303 (15-over par) to take eighth place after Tuesday afternoon's final round played on the Pete Dye Valley Course at the TPC Sawgrass.

All four Eagles that scored climbed up the leaderboard with rounds in the mid-70's. The Eagles round was the fourth lowest of the day in a field of nationally-ranked squads.

Carson-Newman finished the tournament at 928 (+64), eleven strokes behind seventh-place Flagler. Abilene Christian University won the tournament with an 873.

Junior Liam Ashby (Dublin, Ireland) jumped into the top 20, closing at 17th after a 75 in the final round, while Gavin Hay (Glasgow, Scotland), shot 74 (+2) to match Ashby in 17th. Hay had one of the tourney's few rounds at par or better, shooting an even-par 72 on Monday.

Freshman Jonathan Kim-Moss (Mississauga, Canada) bounced back from a poor opening round to jump into the top 40, closing with a 76. He was 13-over in his opening round, but played his final 36 holes at 150 (+6).

Senior John Minor Jr. (Dandridge, Tenn.) also shot in the 70's in the final round, finished at 47 with a 78 (+6) on Tuesday.

The tournament closes out the Eagles' fall schedule. C-N returns to action in February.
