Eagles sixth, Ashby tied for eighth after two rounds of 2011 SAC Men's Golf Championship

CONOVER, N.C. — The Carson-Newman Eagles are in sixth place after two rounds of the 2011 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Men's Golf Championship on Monday at Rock Barn Country Club.

The Eagles carded rounds of 310 and 313 on the par 72, 6,944-yard layout to finish the day with a score of 623 (+47).

Newberry College leads the tournament with a score of 591 (287-304, +15), followed by defending champion Lincoln Memorial with a score of 605 (300-305, +29), Wingate University with a score of 611 (304-307, +35), Catawba College with a 613 (301-312, +37) and Tusculum College with a score of 614 (303-311, +38).

Junior Liam Ashby (Dublin, Ireland) paced the Eagles with a two-round total of 151 (78-73, +7) to finish the day in a tie for eighth place. Ashby is six strokes behind Wingate University's Clifford Blanquicet, who sits atop the leaderboard after turning in a score of 145 (70-75, +1) on Monday.

Sophomore Gavin Hay (Glasgow, Scotland) is in a tie for 12th after carding a pair of 76s for a score of 152 (+8), while freshman Jonathan Kim-Moss (Mississauga, Canada) is tied for 23rd with a two-round total of 157 (78-79, +13). Junior Alex Coughlin (Jefferson City, Tenn.) is tied for 37th with a score of 163 (78-85, +19), and senior John Minor, Jr. (Dandridge, Tenn.) is in 45th place with a 168 (81-87, +24).

The final round of the 54-hole championship will be played on Tuesday.
