Eagles seventh after first round of Golfweek Spring Invitational

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Carson-Newman men's golf team is in seventh place after Sunday's first round of the Golfweek Spring Invitational at the Reunion Resort Legacy Course.

The Eagles turned in a score of 293 (+5) and are 14 strokes behind tournament leader Barton College (293, -9). The tournament field is made up of 18 teams, includng eight in the top 25.

C-N junior Liam Ashby (Dublin, Ireland) overcame a double bogey on his first hole of the day to fire a 3-under par 69 is in a tie for fourth place. Ashby closed out his round with five birdies and 12 pars.

Sophomore Gavin Hay (Glasgow, Scotland) is tied for 26th after carding a 1-over par 73. Michael Horenkamp (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) turned in a 74 (+2) and is in a tie for 37th, while John Minor, Jr. (Dandridge, Tenn.) and Jordan Patrick (Abingdon, Va.) shot rounds of 77 (+5) and 80 (+8).

Barton College's Dermot McElhennon leads the tournament after firing an 8-under 64.

The second round of the three-day tournament will be played today.
