JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Leonard Baecker has been named the South Atlantic Conference's Men's Tennis Player of the Week.
After a 3-0 performance over the past week in singles, and a 1-1 performance in doubles, freshman Leonard Baecker (Pliezhausen, Germany) has been named the WePlayed SAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week.
Baecker picked up wins over Purdue Northwest's Francisco Lanuesse in a 6-2, 6-1 victory in his lone appearance this spring in the No. 5 singles flight giving C-N its only singles point in a 4-2 loss to No. 21 Purdue Northwest.
The next day, Baecker picked up a rivalry win, in the clinching point against Tusculum taking a three-set thriller 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 over Sarthak Sharma on Court No. 6.
He finished up his perfect singles week with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Coker's Joao Pugliese in a sweep of the Cobras.
In doubles, Baecker went 1-1 with an unfinished match against Purdue Northwest. He picked up his doubles win against Coker with a 7-5 win alongside partner Matthew Saunders.
Carson-Newman Men's Tennis has been ranked No. 48 in the most recent ITA team poll. The Eagles return to action on Tuesday, March 25 at 2 p.m. against Emory & Henry. C-N is 6-3 in dual matches with a 4-1 mark in SAC play.
