C-N Competes at a High Level Against Converse to End the Fall Season

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman men's tennis team closed out the fall season with a competitive showing against Converse University at the Buddy A. Catlett tennis complex on Friday and Saturday.

In doubles play to start the day, the Eagles split four competitive matches with the Valkyries. The Eagles' top pairings of Marnix Van Dalen, Paul Gayk, Gjorgji Jankulovski, and Matthew Saunders secured wins in the No. 1 and 2 spots, while Converse won matches at No. 3 and 4.

FRIDAY DOUBLE RESULTS

No. 1: M. Van Dalen/P. Gayk (C-N) def. L. Morel/M. Letessier (CU), 7-6

No. 2: M. Saunders/G. Jankulovski (C-N) def. B. Hyde-Smith/L. Walker (CU), 6-1

No. 3: C. Davies/T. Furukami (CU) def. L. Baecker/L. Keenan (C-N), 6-3

No. 4: P. Davis/R. Naval (CU) def. A. Standefer/B. Jordanov (C-N), 6-2

C-N dominated in singles play, winning five of the six matches. Three Eagles matches went to three sets, and Gjorgji Jankulovski pulled out an impressive three-set win in the No. 2 spot, and Matthew Saunders won in the No. 5 spot. Marnix Van Dalen held the No. 1 spot in two tightly contested sets. Freshmen Louis Keenan and Leonard Baecker impressed, winning their matches in straight sets.

No. 1: Marnix Van Dalen (C-N) def. Marty Letessier (CU), 7-6/7-5

No. 2: Gjorgji Jankulovski (C-N) def. Takuma Furukami (CU), 4-6/6-3/10-6

No. 3: Louis Keenan (C-N) def. Leopold Morel (CU), 6-2/7-6

No. 4: Lucas Walker (CU) def. Paul Gayk (C-N), 6-7/6-4/10-1

No. 5: Matthew Saunders (C-N) def. Ben Hyde-Smith (CU), 3-6/6-3/10-5

No. 6: Leonard Baecker (C-N) def. Cameron Davies (CU), 8-3

The Eagles and the Valkyries played doubles on Saturday before inclement weather shortened the contest. Those results will come shortly.
