Pope tabs Ganglehoff to lead tennis programs

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman Vice President for Athletics Matt Pope has announced the hiring of former Warner head coach Nate Gangelhoff to lead C-N's men's and women's tennis programs.

"We're grateful for our Associate Athletics Director for NCAA Compliance, Internal Operations and Senior Woman Administrator, Ms. Suzanne Strudwick, who chaired our search committee and hiring process, and we are so grateful for her efforts.," Pope said. "I believe we have exactly what we wished for in a new Head Tennis Coach in Nate Gangelhoff.  He is man of faith and integrity, a successful young head coach and good recruiter, he has high hopes for our programs in all facets and will prove to be a great fit at Carson-Newman University."

Gangelhoff replaces Jon Parker, who resigned to take a job outside of coaching.

Gangelhoff has spent the last two years at Warner University in Lake Wales, Fla.. He coached the Royals to their first SUN Conference tournament appearance this past season.

"I am extremely excited and honored to be the next head tennis coach for Carson-Newman University," Gangelhoff said. "I will strive to continue the success of this historic and great program. I look forward to the accomplishments this program will all have, from: on the court, in the classroom and in our community."

With the Royals, Gangelhoff coached three NAIA All-American singles players, two NAIA All-American doubles players and seven NAIA/NCCAA All-Academic Players.

Prior to his time at Warner, Gangelhoff was named the 2021 Polk County High School Coach of the Year while at Lakeland High School. Lakeland went undefeated in the regular season and competed in the State Championship for the first time since 1973.

Gangelhoff is a native of Beaverton, Oregon. In 2013, he moved to Lakeland, Fla. to attend Southeastern University. He played four seasons of collegiate tennis and was the captain of his team his senior year. Nate graduated with a bachelor's in communications in 2017.

He then attended Evert Tennis Academy in Boca Raton, Fla. as a coach. He got to train with and see the coaching styles of some of the world's top professional tennis players such as Monica Puig, Nick Kyrgios, and Naomi Osaka.

In 2018, Gangelhoff went back to his hometown to work for a non-profit tennis organization called Portland Tennis and Education. This non-profit helped kids in need of mentoring, tutoring, and used tennis as a way to get exercise.

Nate is married to the former Abby Cecchine.  The couple has a cat and two dogs.
