C-N Prepares For Familiar Fall Slate

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman men's tennis team prepares for the fall season, facing a familiar set of challenges to start the year.

C-N heads to Lincoln Memorial University on Saturday and Sunday for the LMU Invitational. The Eagles started their season in Harrogate last season, and multiple returning Eagles notched season-opening wins.

Marnix Van Dalen, Paul Gayk, and Gjorgji Jankulovski recorded wins on the singles court, while Yehor Opanasenko dropped a pair of tightly contested contests. The returning duo of Jankulovski and Gayk secured a win on the doubles court. C-N will look for similar results this weekend in Harrogate.

It'll be a quick turnaround for the Eagles after the weekend, as C-N heads to the Belmont Abbey Invitational on September 19th and 20th. This presents another familiar challenge for Jon Parker's squad as the Eagles return to Belmont, North Carolina, for the second time in Parker's tenure.

It was another solid effort from C-N's returners a year ago, with Van Dalen, Jankulovski, and Gayk all earning wins in singles. Opanasenko and Gayk won in doubles in their debut as a duo.

The Eagles head to the four-day ITA Fall Championships in Sumter, South Carolina, a week later on September 27th-30th. This continues the trend of familiarity for the Eagles with C-N attending the event in the 2023 fall season.

C-N faced in-state foes Lee, Tusculum, and Lincoln Memorial at the event, and the Eagles succeeded against both. Jankulovski and Gayk secured wins in the singles competition against Tusculum, and Jankulovski also won a singles match against Lee. Gayk and Jankulovski earned wins over Tusculum and LMU in doubles play.

The Eagles return home to open October with the first UTR College Circuit Tournament at Carson-Newman on October 11th and 12th. Two weeks later, C-N closes the fall season with the newly introduced Eagle Invitational on October 25th and 26th. The Eagles hosted the event last season and will bring it back to end the fall season.

C-N welcomed in Bluefield State and Tusculum for the first year of the Eagle Invitational, facing BSU in singles and Tusculum in doubles. The Eagles swept Bluefield State in singles, winning all six matches before taking two of three from Tusculum on the doubles court.

The Eagles will look to kick off the season on the right foot on Saturday at the LMU Invitational, starting at 9 AM.
