C-N Freshmen Earn Experience at Belmont Abbey Invitational

BELMONT, N.C. – The Carson-Newman freshmen showed their potential on Wednesday at the Belmont Abbey Invitational. Despite not coming out on the winning side, they produced a competitive outing with a handful of hard-fought matches.

C-N started the day against the University of Mount Olive, dropping both doubles matches against the Trojans.

Doubles vs. UMO

No. 1: UMO No. 1 doubles def. Keenan/Baecker (C-N), 6-2

No. 2: UMO No. 2 doubles def. Standefer/Jordanov (C-N), 6-0

In singles play against the Trojans, the Eagles put together a handful of tight matches, but couldn't come out on top.

No. 1: UMO No. 1 singles def. Louis Keenan (C-N), 6-4/0-6/10-8

No. 2: UMO No. 2 singles def. Leonard Baecker (C-N), 6-1/6-4

No. 3: UMO No. 3 singles def. Boris Jordanov (C-N), 6-1/6-2

The Eagles continued play later in the afternoon, squaring off against the Jaguars of Augusta University. The Jaguars succeeded in doubles play, taking both matches from the Eagles.

No. 2: Augusta No. 2 doubles def. Nelson/Jordanov (C-N), 6-1

Augusta's success continued in singles play, winning all three matches to close the day.
