JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman Women's Tennis takes on Union (Ky.) in its home opener after a 1-1 start in Harrogate.
The Eagles began their season with a win over Young Harris while competing valiantly with Division I Southeast Missouri State in early February to begin the season 1-1. Now the Eagles finally have their first home match against the Bulldogs in the first home event for first-year head coach Nathan Gangelhoff.
Union, a NAIA member, is coming off a 7-0 sweep against fellow Appalachian Athletic Conference member, Johnson (Tenn.), who the Eagles will also see later this season. Union also earned a tight 4-3 victory over South Atlantic Conference member, UVA Wise.
However, the Bulldogs were downed in their season opener against Lincoln Memorial, also in a 4-3 decision.
In the match against Johnson, the Bulldogs did not drop a set in singles going 72-12 in games across all six matches. That stat is highlighted from No. 6 single Angeliki Efthymiou who won her match 6-0, 6-0.
Union also swept the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. The Lady Bulldogs went 18-1 in doubles games.
Carson-Newman is highlighted by Edisa Hot (Bar, Montenegro) who only competed in one of the two matches in Harrogate but was named to the SAC's Players to Watch list.
First serve is set for 11 a.m. from the Charles A. "Buddy" Catlett Tennis Complex.
