C-N Newcomers Deliver Solid Showing at Belmont Abbey Invitational

BELMONT, N.C. – The Carson-Newman women's tennis team let its freshmen and newcomers take the spotlight at the Belmont Abbey Invitational, giving the Eagles an optimistic glance at the program's future.

C-N squared off with the University of Mount Olive to start the day, taking on the Trojans in doubles. The Eagle newcomers impressed, earning wins in both doubles matches.

Doubles vs. UMO

No. 1: Baacke/Sanchez Jimenez (C-N) def. UMO No. 1 doubles, 6-2

No. 2: Mar Sarda Marti/Fraile (C-N) def. UMO No. 2 doubles, 6-1

The Eagles also played the Trojans in singles, having similar success. C-N swept UMO in singles play, including a marathon win from freshman Kira Baacke in three sets.

No. 2: Emma Sanchez Jimenez (C-N) def. UMO No. 2 singles, 6-4/6-3

Later in the afternoon, C-N took on Augusta University in singles and doubles play. The Eagles dropped both doubles matches. However, they were closely contested.

No. 2: Augusta No. 2 doubles def. Aguiar/Fraile (C-N), 6-4

C-N succeeded in singles, winning two of the three matches against the Jaguars.

After a successful showing from C-N's young talent, the Eagles will prepare for the ITA Fall Championships on September 27th and 28th in Sumter, South Carolina.
