Women's Tennis Set for Battle vs Lee on Tuesday

MATCH NOTES

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman Women's Tennis is coming off an impressive Saturday showing into a mid-week clash with Lee on Tuesday.

The Eagles are coming off a 4-3 decision against Union (Ky.) which featured a 6-0, 6-0 victory from the No. 6 singles slot Maria del Mar Sarda Marti (Barcelona, Spain) and a 6-1, 6-0 victory from the No. 2 singles Emma Sanchez Jimenez (Marabella, Spain).

Lee enters the contest at 3-0 on the season with some impressive results. The Flames have not dropped a match since defeating Cumberlands (Tenn.) 5-2 back in October. Lee did fall to Division I Chattanooga 5-2, but the match was just an exhibition.

The Flames prevailed in the doubles point taking two out of three doubles matches against the Mocs while No. 1 singles Ashleigh Simes took the solo victory in three sets.

The other two official contests for Lee came against Shorter and Tusculum, matches it won in shutout fashion, 7-0 and 5-0, respectively.

The Flames are coming off a 2024 spring schedule in which they went 9-7, just 4-6 against Gulf South Conference competition. However, Lee upended Carson-Newman in Mossy Creek last season shutting out the Eagles 4-0.

In official contests, the Flames boast two 3-0 members in singles play including Maria Penalver Aguillo and Ashleigh Simes. In those same three contests, the Flames have yet to drop a doubles contest, let alone a point.

It will be a battle between a rock and a hard place as the Lady Eagles have not lost a doubles point to this point in the season.

The match against Lee is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. from the DeVos Tennis Center in Cleveland, Tenn. on Tuesday.
