VIDEO: Nate Gangelhoff Interview
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman Women's Tennis and head coach Nathan Gangelhoff have officially unveiled the spring schedule.
Carson-Newman's season has already begun, with a decisive 4-2 win over Young Harris to open the season and a tough loss to Division I Southeast Mo. State, the Lady Eagles sit 1-1 through one match day.
"Regardless of who we're playing whether it's D1, D2, D3, Juco, or NAIA it doesn't really matter," Gangelhoff said. "The team energy has to be there. When you are supported, and you feel the energy from your teammates, you start to play better."
The Eagles then turn their sights to two NAIA opponents on back-to-back days. On February 21, they will take on Bethel (Tenn.) on the road in McKenzie before returning the next day for the home opener at the Charles A. "Buddy" Catlett Tennis Complex against Union (Ky.) on February 22.
"I'm excited to see how doubles work out," Gangelhoff said. "With new, different doubles combinations that we're throwing at them, seeing how they communicate with each other, see how things go."
Carson-Newman clashes with just one nonconference opponent in a road match at Lee on February 25 before starting South Atlantic Conference play.
The Eagles begin conference play with a dual meet against Catawba in Mossy Creek at 11:00 a.m., facing Limestone and UVA Wise on the road on Mar. 8 and Mar. 11, respectively before returning home to take on Lenoir-Rhyne on Mar. 13 to kick off a five-match homestand.
C-N has an odd mid-conference season match against a non-conference opponent as Purdue Northwest travels to Jefferson City on March 18. It will be the first-ever meeting between the Eagles and the Pride.
The following day Carson-Newman faces arch-rival Tusculum at 11:00 a.m. in Jeff City before finishing up the homestand hosting Coker and Emory & Henry on Mar. 22 and Mar. 25.
The Eagles next hit the court in Wingate, N.C. to take on the Bulldogs on Mar. 29 to wrap up the March schedule before picking up right where they left off in April with a road contest against Lincoln Memorial on April 2.
Carson-Newman Women's Tennis will celebrate Senior Day on April 4 against NAIA foe, Johnson (Tenn.) and wraps up the home schedule four days later on Apr. 8 against Mars Hill.
C-N finishes the regular season with a two-match road trip to the Palmetto State taking on Anderson (S.C.) and Newberry on Apr. 11 and Apr. 12.
The South Atlantic Conference Women's Tennis Tournament will occur between Apr. 16 and Apr. 18 hosted by the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, S.C.
The season culminates at the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Championships from May 21 to May 25 at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
