Baseball set for Orange and Blue World Series

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman baseball team wraps up its fall season with a best-of-five intrasquad World Series coached by assistant coaches and former players Daniel Sharp (Blue) and Trace Rogers (Orange).

Games one and two will begin at 3:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday afternoon with game three slated for a 10:30 a.m. start time Saturday. Sunday will mark the fourth at 1:00 p.m. and the series concludes Tuesday night at Jefferson County High School at 6:00 p.m.

Games one, three and five will employ American League rules with designated hitters while games two and four will allow the pitchers to hit in National League rules.

The No. 1 pick in the draft was second-team All-South Atlantic Conference selection and Gold Glove winning outfielder Bo Ausmus by Sharp.

Rogers responded with junior outfielder Joe Tipton (Dandridge, Tenn.) and senior outfielder Cody Fox (Seymour, Tenn.).

Game one will feature junior left-hander Jamie Miller (Wardensville, W.V.) for the orange side against junior southpaw Vince Apicella (Dillsburg, Pa.) for the blue team.

Game two pits senior righty Quinton Yocom (Cable, Ohio) for the orange and sophomore right-hander Ryan Eberle (Cookeville, Tenn.).

The winner of the series earns a championship shirt while the losing team has to do field work and paint the facilities.

The team that scores the most runs over the course of the five contests gets a meal at Gondolier.
