1965 NAIA National Champions holding panel discussion

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - As part of its 50-year reunion, the 1965 Carson-Newman baseball team will hold a panel discussion that is free and open to the public Saturday morning at 9 a.m. at the Bobby Wilson training facility located next to the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex on the campus of Carson-Newman University.

The Eagles defeated Nebraska-Omaha 3-2 to finish the season 31-3 and the best team in the country in the NAIA ranks.

Carson-Newman set eight records in that World Series that still stand to this day. Some of the records include 65 team strikeouts in four games, fewest hits allowed with 14 for the series, team strikeouts in a game with 24 and Clyde Wright's 22 strikeouts in one game.

Wright was named the Most Valuable Player of the World Series and became a sixth round selection of the California Angels. The 10-year veteran pitched in the 1970 All-Star Game, threw a no-hitter and won 22 games in 1970 an Angel record that he shares with Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan.

The team will recall a pair of wins over the University of Tennessee, road trips, head coach Frosty Holt and many more memories in the hour program.
