JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Former Carson-Newman hurler and Major League Baseball All-Star Clyde Wright will be hosting a pitching October 23 at the Bobby Wilson Training Facility located next to the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is free for 12 to 18-year-olds.

Wright helped lead the 1965 Carson-Newman baseball team to the NAIA National Championship over Nebraska-Omaha in a 3-2 Eagles victory. In that contest, the 10-year big league veteran struck out 22 batters, a record that still stands today.

The Jefferson City, Tenn. native was an All-Star in 1970 and finished sixth in the American Cy Young Award voting. Wright played for the California Angels, Milwaukee Brewers and Texas Rangers in his career.

The 100-game winner threw a no-hitter on July 3, 1970 against the Oakland Athletics. Wright struck out one batter while allowing three walks in the second no-no hurled in Angels history.

Members of the current Carson-Newman baseball team will be helping with the event and everyone 12-18 is encouraged to attend and get instruction from a former big leaguer.
