VIDEO: Quinton Yocom Interview

ROCK HILL, S.C. – For the third consecutive week, a Carson-Newman hurler has earned the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference's Pitcher of the Week award. Senior righthander Quinton Yocom (Cable, Ohio) wins his first career Pitcher of the Week after junior lefty Vince Apicella (Dillsburg, Pa.) won the award the last two weeks.

The third honor for a Carson-Newman pitcher ties a school record set by the 2010 team which also garnered three SAC Pitcher of the Week accolades.

"The extra work that myself, Vince and all of the other pitchers that we try to get every day," Yocom said. "Either it's more stretching, more throwing, flat ground or bullpen. Really it's just believing in the program and it's finally paying off."

Yocom tossed his third career complete game shutout and fourth overall complete game by blanking the Anderson Trojans last Friday 5-0. The righty struck out a career-high 12 batters, walked two and allowed just three hits.

The Trojans first hit of the day didn't come until the fifth inning after issuing a leadoff walk in the frame. Yocom struck out a batter and induced a double play ball to end the frame.

"Mainly my control with all of my pitches and working the off-speed really well compared to last week when I struggled," Yocom said of what worked for him Friday. "Mainly my control with all of my pitches really helped me out."

Yocom will make his next start Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. when the Tusculum Pioneers come to Mossy Creek for the first game of a three-game series against the Eagles.
