Apicella, Burnett tabbed for Bojangles Athletes of the Week

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman baseball's Vince Apicella (Dillsburg, Pa.) and swimming's Natalie Burnett (Sevierville, Tenn.) have been named Bojangles' Male and Female Athletes of the Week.

For the second consecutive week, Apicella went the distance in the a Carson-Newman victory. The southpaw matched a career-high from last week's outing against Catawba by striking out 13 in a 3-1 game one victory over Brevard on February 14.

The junior allowed just two hits and one earned run while walking five in the victory over the Tornados. His 0.50 earned run average this season ranks second in the conference while his 26 strikeouts are third in the league.

Sophomore swimmer Natalie Burnett (Sevierville, Tenn.) won three gold medals, set six school records and continued her season by clinching a spot at the NCAA Championships next month all in a week's work at the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships in Charlotte.

In the 50 Free, Burnett won gold by swimming one of her "A" times and set a school record with a time of 22.95. She also set a Bluegrass Mountain Conference meet record with that time.

She also won the 100 Back with a school record setting time of 54.43. Burnett also took gold in the 100 Fly in record setting fashion of 53.62 seconds. Burnett set her second "A" time in the Fly.

Burnett was also a part of the three school record setting relay teams. Burnett was a member of the 200 Medley Relay, 400 Medley Relay and the 400 Free Relay.
