Bluega Whales control game three

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The blue squad earned a convincing 9-2 win Saturday afternoon at the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex. Freshman pitcher Zach Hollar (Charlotte, N.C.) received the win on the mound going three innings giving up two earned runs.

Senior first basemen Evan Jurjevic (New Carlisle, Ind.) opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with an RBI single to right, scoring sophomore centerfielder Ryan Addington (Cincinnati, Ohio) who led off the frame with a bunt single. Later in the inning redshirt freshman catcher Brett Hagenow (Knoxville, Tenn.) grounded a single down the left field line that knocked home senior shortstop Bryan Everhart (Greeneville, Tenn.) and Jurjevic.

The Orangetangs (O-Rang-e-tangs) answered in the bottom of the 2nd as freshman catcher Cade Snapp (Seymour, Tenn.) sent a ball deep to left field for a two-run homer cutting the lead to 3-2.

The Bluega Whales extended their lead in the third with a two-out rally that was started when sophomore catcher Greg Jones (Maryville, Tenn.) was hit by a pitch. A Hagenow walk followed by back to back RBI singles by freshman third basemen Austin Kearney (Powell, Tenn.) and freshman outfielder Brendan Campbell (Yardley, Penn.) gave them a 5-2 advantage. That ended the day for Orange freshman starter Phil Pardue (Knoxville, Tenn.).

The Whales struck again in the 6th as Addington came around to eventually score on a throwing error. Top pick senior outfielder Bo Ausmus (Jefferson City, Tenn.) added to the Blue teams lead with a sac fly in the sixth, and Campbell lined a pitch over the wall in the seventh to give his team a 9-2 lead and that would be the final.

The pitching combination of Hollar, redshirt freshman pitcher Mo Foster (Murfreesboro, Tenn.), and senior pitcher Michael Cogliano (Medford, N.J.) limited the Orange Squad to 3 hits on the day. Cogliano went 2.1 innings, striking out three and only surrendered one hit.

For the Bluega Whales, Addington set the tone reaching base four times and scoring twice. Everhart continued his hot streak going 2-4 with two runs, and Campbell had two hits and three RBI on the day.

Pardue took the loss for the Orange team. The Blue lineup drew seven walks on the day.
