Eagles Finish Fifth at TVA Credit Union Classic

FLORENCE, Ala. – The Carson-Newman Eagles men's golf team finished in fifth place at the TVA Credit Union Classic at Turtle Point Yacht and Country Club following the third and final round on Tuesday.

The Eagles were led by another strong performance from senior Jonathan Kim-Moss (Mississauga, Canada), who finished at 3-over-par for the tournament for an individual fifth place finish, only six strokes behind the winner Robert Mize of Columbus State (3-under-par).

Kim-Moss played the final day with an even-par score of 72.

"Jonathan obviously played well," said Carson-Newman head coach John Minor. "Finishing fifth was another good event for him."

This is the third consecutive tournament for Kim-Moss with a top 10 finish after strong showings at the Kiawah Island Invitational and Columbus State Invitational, and this is his first top five finish of the fall schedule.

Following Kim-Moss' even-par 72 performance, Carson-Newman's best round on Tuesday came from freshman Dalton Reese (Warrenton, Ga.), who fired a 1-over-par 73 and finished in a tie for 41st place.

"Dalton came back with a good number today," Minor said. "That was certainly strong but after that we didn't play great. I don't have the answer for that."

With Kim-Moss finishing an overall fifth at the tournament, the next closest Eagle was senior Rafael Jackson (Rutledge, Tenn.) who finished tied for 19th at 11-over-par on the heels of his strong 1-under-par 71 during Monday's second round.

Also tying for 41st in the tournament along with Reese was sophomore Corey Bray (Caryville, Tenn.) with his score of 234 for the tournament.

Carson-Newman sophomore Nicklaus Kennedy (London, Ontario, Canada) posted the highest score of the day with a 14-over-par 86 and finished the tournament in a tie for 65th place.

The Eagles as a team shot a 44-over-par 908 for the three-round tournament, 34 strokes behind the winner and host North Alabama, who finished with a 10-over-par 874.

Carson-Newman will close out the fall portion of its schedule at the Rollins Invitational, hosted by Rollins University, at the Rio Pinar Country Club in Orlando, Fla., next Monday and Tuesday Oct. 28-29.
