EATONTON, Ga. – Carson-Newman men's golfer Jonathan Kim-Moss (Mississauga, Canada) is in the running for his third top-five finish of his senior season after turning in a 74 (+2) after round one of the 2014 Bobcat Intercollegiate at Cuscowilla Country Club in Eatonton, Ga.
Kim-Moss is in sixth place for the Eagles while the team sits in 15th out of 17 teams. The place is a bit misleading, Carson-Newman is just 14 strokes off second place in a cluttered field that features five top-10 teams and five more inside the top 25.
Carson-Newman shot 317 as a team. Clayton State lead the tournament with a 299, while Armstrong Atlantic and Nova Southeastern are tied for second with 303s.
Beyond Kim-Moss, Rafael Jackson (Rutledge, Tenn.) sits in a tie for 42nd after shooting a 79 (+7). Dalton Reese (Warrenton, Ga.), Nicklaus Kennedy (London, Ontario) and Corey Bray (Caryville, Tenn.) all fired 82s (+10) to finish in a tie for 68th place.
The Eagles played the opening round in sub-50 degree temperatures and a consistent blustery drizzle. The weather conditions moved the intercollegiate from a three-round event to two rounds.
The Eagles resume play Tuesday at 9:10 a.m. with the final 18 holes of the tournament.
